Social media is beneficial to our society today, because it helps people interact with one another. These interactions could help people form relationships, connect with potential employers, or make business deals. When you are on a social networking site, and want to connect with someone you haven't met before, your mutual friends on the site can help them know that you are not a stranger. This could lead you to a connection with them that could benefit both of you. It also is a fun way for people to stay connected and updated on the lives of family and friends.
Even though social media can be good for our society, there are also some dangers that come with putting your information out for anyone to see. Many people aren't smart about what they post and it can cause arguments and problems with friends and family. Also, you might post information about yourself that is unsafe for the general public to know such as phone numbers, your address, or your age and gender. There are many teens who have gotten too involved online with people they didn't know and the person they were communicating with had lied to them about who they were in order to catch them in a trap where they could be hurt. If you don't use social media in a safe way that you know will benefit you, then it can backfire and start taking a huge toll on your life, relationships, and safety.
Being involved with social media has had an effect on my life, because it has helped me stay in touch with family members that live far away. It also has helped me be able to share pictures, thoughts, and feelings with friends through Facebook and a blog. Many of my friends started blogs in junior high as a sort of online journal, and I have been keeping it up since eighth grade and it has been a lot of fun. I have kept it private though, so I have to approve people who can see it or comment on it in order to keep my information confidential. I have really enjoyed it though, and I'm so grateful for all of the technology we have today that helps us state our opinions and share our thoughts in an easy and fun way.
